Spring has Sprung so let the Spring Clean begin!

Updated: Apr 3

Spring has arrived, and what a delight it is to see everything in the garden bursting into life. It’s a season of renewal and hope. But with the sunshine comes the inevitable pull between enjoying the outdoors and tackling those lingering indoor tasks - yes, the spring clean!

As old-fashioned as it may sound, a spring clean remains as relevant today as ever. It’s the perfect way to bring order to your home, which in turn creates a sense of relaxation and comfort.

For me, the first telltale sign that it’s time to get started is the state of my windows. The sunlight streaming in has a way of revealing every streak and smudge, making those step ladders suddenly very necessary! And let’s not forget the cobwebs — it’s amazing how industrious spiders can be.

Where to Begin

A good declutter is always a satisfying place to start. It helps you see your space with fresh eyes. Tackle one room at a time, taking a thoughtful look at what’s on your sideboards, shelves, and surfaces. Do these items bring you joy? Perhaps some pieces would benefit from a little rearranging. It’s funny how things become invisible when they’ve sat in the same spot for too long. Moving them around can help you rediscover and appreciate your treasures all over again.

When it comes to styling, groupings of objects often work best in odd numbers. Consider arranging pieces by type, such as ceramics or silver, by colour palette, or by meaningful themes like souvenirs from your travels. And remember - leaving some empty space is essential. Just like a comma in a sentence, a little breathing room allows your eye to rest and take everything in.

Show Your Drawers Some Love

Drawers and cupboards also deserve attention, but pace yourself! Taking on too much at once can leave your home in chaos and lead to overwhelming frustration.

Start small. Sorting through a drawer or two can bring a surprising sense of satisfaction. You might even stumble upon long-lost items - like that second set of keys you’ve been searching for for ages!

Baskets are a great way of keeping things contained, purses, gloves, hats, etc. rather than ending up on 'the side'.

Refresh Without Spending

Before you rush to buy the latest cushions or vases tempting you on social media, take stock of what you already own. You’d be surprised how a simple reshuffle can breathe new life into a room. Often, a thorough clean and a fresh perspective are just as impactful as a repaint - and far more budget-friendly.

The Joy of Letting Go

As you sort through your things, remember that items you no longer need could bring joy to someone else. Rather than tossing them out, consider donating to charity shops, listing on Facebook Marketplace, or using platforms like Vinterior. After all, one person’s trash is another’s treasure.
